In 1998, I became inspired by Ms. Oprah Winfrey to find my purpose in life and do it. My search eventually led me to leaving my first career in human resources, and beginning a second career teaching people what I had learned about how to thrive in life.
I was curious about the factors that influenced success in life, so I began my research for a thesis paper for a Masters Degree in Leadership and Management in 1999. In 2005, I delved even deeper into that research, while completing a second Masters Degree. This time I focused on Counselling Psychology, to prepare myself to work with young people, and I really wanted to understand why some people became successful later in life, and others did not.
Everything I learned from my education, my experience with thousands of 18-25 year olds in my human resources career, and my own life experiences, came together in a letter I wrote for my great-niece Ashley. I told her the lessons I learned in life that became strategies I used for successfully navigating it all. At the prompting of friends and family, the letter eventually became a book and journal for everyone and was published in July 2010.
I am now well on my way to fulfilling my purpose in life by teaching these strategies to people of all ages everywhere, to help them thrive in life, and my big, big dream is to develop a program for eventual use in the public school system ... at Ashley's Ranch.
